Five Things You're Sure to Find at Festivals

By Andrew Stratton
Festivals are a great way to get out of the house and experience some culture. No matter where you are in the country, or what time of year it is, there's likely something going on in your city. There are a few things that you're sure to find at these types of events, including good food, nice people, fun entertainment, and something for the youngsters to enjoy.
Delicious Food
Festivals aren't complete without a plethora of great local food. Supporting local food venues that set up tents or food trucks is an excellent way to invest back into the community and encourage local food growth. Not to mention, local food found at outdoor events is often freshly prepared and delicious. Plus, these events allow you to taste a range of foods from across town and possibly plan a dinner at a restaurant you've never tried before.
Good People
We all lead busy lives these days, and with the invention and integration of technology, it can become increasingly difficult to connect on a personal level. Use these opportunities to put away the cell phones and laptops and meet new people. The people you'll meet at festivals will likely share a love of food, culture, and music. If you're in a new city, these events could provide a great chance to make new friends, connect, and learn about local life.
Fun for the Kids
Festivals aren't just for the grown-ups. Oftentimes, bouncy castles, hayrides, or mazes are set up for the youngsters. There's no need to call a babysitter when you're planning on attending an outdoor event because most are family friendly. Even if there aren't any children's attractions set up, your kids might find some new friends or enjoy the food.
Entertainment
Any outdoor event isn't complete without entertainment, which usually takes the form of music. Discover local talent or enjoy a play for the kids while you tour around the grounds sampling food and talking with other people. Events in the summer provide the perfect opportunity to kick back in the grass and take in some tunes.
Fresh Air
Even if the music isn't to your liking, you aren't hungry, or you're not interested in meeting new people, you will always be provided the joy of some fresh air. Spending time outdoors isn't only fun, but it can help us relax and unplug from our busy technological worlds. Whether it's summertime and the sun is shining, or it's the end of fall and you're walking through a pumpkin patch, just being outside can be immensely enjoyable.
Festivals come in all shapes and sizes. Some include parades or themes with specialized music and food. Others are child-centered or just an excuse to get outside and enjoy some food and music. No matter where you are, or if you're visiting, you should make an effort to attend these local events to try the cuisine, meet new people, and either bond with your community or learn about a new one.
