Picasso at the Lapin Agile

Einstein and Picasso meet at a bar...

Who could oppose going to see a play with an opening draw like that?

For the San Luis Obispo Little Theater, the Sunday evening execution was the final one of the run of a play by Steve Martin called, Picasso at the Lapin Agile and it was sold out. Martin composes that when he saw a self- picture of Picasso Au Lapin Agile painted in 1905, he started to ponder about the story that hinted at Picasso's canvas, around a barkeep named Freddie, about the characters who may have meandered into the bar in 1904, bringing a few freedoms with the nine characters who show up in the ninety moment play, he made a play that not the slightest bit baffles.

I had no clue that Martin had ever composed a play; we were so fascinated by the idea that we showed up a prior hour the play was to open, trusting for no-shows. Furthermore were remunerated alongside the five other people who were remaining in the hold up line. We got in.

The characters in the play talk a most delightful, astute and uncommon blend of diversion, parody and significant dialog.

"Yes, well, we're all essayists, right? He's an essayist that hasn't been distributed, and I'm an author who hasn't composed anything." Freddy jokes in light of Einstein's disclosure that his book on relativity is composed yet not yet distributed.

And after that there is this:

Picasso: Well, I see different painters battling with it, executing themselves over it even. Also I don't get their stress. I put the pencil to the paper, and it turns out. Not the specialty, mind you, that was hard to get. The thoughts are an alternate matter. The thoughts swoop down on me, they fall like downpour; they arrive with an accident.

Einstein: They "clunk," as well.

Picasso: Absolutely! They thud.

Einstein: You as well?

Picasso: Yes. What's more pop.

Einstein: Well, pop constantly, that goes without saying. They never appear to stream however.

Picasso: Never. Streaming is a myth.

Einstein: Never stream. That being said, at times.

Picasso: Yeah, now and again.

Freddy: Where do they originate from?

Picasso: Before me, craftsmen used to get thoughts from the past. Be that as it may as of this minute, they are originating from the future, quick and detached.

Einstein: Absolutely from what's to come.

Picasso: I think in the snippet of the pencil to paper, what's to come is mapped out despite the individual drawn. Envision that the pencil is pushed hard enough, and the lead experiences the paper into an alternate measurement.

The San Luis Obispo Community Theater prides itself on in excess of sixty years of plays, making it one of the longest running group theaters in the nation. Until we encounter the closeness of little theater, it is very simple to lose ourselves in the enticing yet habitually far less fulfilling surrounding motion picture screen. Remarking on that point, in a meeting with a Chicago Tribune columnist, Martin commented, "by and large, definitely, I think comic drama is totally disregarded. That is to say, most adolescent performing artists surmise that genuine acting is the point at which you're shooting up heroin and crying and raving and raving and flipping out. Really, I'm becoming weary of some of these movies. I think they're appalling. I took a gander at something an evening or two ago - not Jean-Claude Van Damme, however some individual like that - where they were clearing individuals out. Also I simply thought, What a senseless thing to accomplish as a profession."
