DIY Five-Minute Stocking by Amy Sinibaldi

DIY5MinuteStockingforEhow_7963
Just five minutes to make a sweet little stocking? Yes please, because the holidays are busy, busy, busy, and it’s so fun to start a craft that you can finish in five minutes flat. Download the DIY instruction and template page here. It looks like this:

Things You’ll Need
  • Felt, including scraps for leaves and berries (I highly recommend wool felt)
  • Scissors (straight and decorative fabric shears)
  • Glue stick
  • Disappearing-ink pen
  • Crochet, lace or ribbon trim
  • Needle
  • Decorative floss
  • Button
  • Twine

Step 1: Print out the PDF, and lightly adhere the template portion of the page to a cereal box, manilla folder or other light cardboard. Cut out the templates.
Step 2: Place the stocking template on felt, and trace with your choice of disappearing ink pen. (Really do yourself a favor and go to the office supply store for a Pilot Frixion pen.  You’ll love, love, love it.  Write on anything, and with just a touch of a hot iron, the marks disappear.)
Step 3: Sew the crochet trim, lace or ribbon onto your stocking outline, 1/2 inch down from the top of the stocking.
Step 4: Place a second layer of felt beneath the traced felt and sew along the traced line around the edge of the stocking, backstitching at the beginning and end of your stitches.
Step 5: Cut out the stocking, a scant 1/8 inch from the stitch line and straight across the top of the stocking (or use decorative scissors, being extra careful not to cut into the stitches.)
Step 6: Decorate your stocking with felt leaves and berries and colored embroidery floss in complementary colors. Last, add a button to the front and tie a hanging loop out of twine.

It’s just that easy. And now I finally have a matching set of stockings for my family.  They’re mini stockings but perfectly sized to hold a few chocolates, a lip gloss, a gift card or any of those tiny extras that might get lost under the tree. If I find the time, I’m going to spend five more minutes on each stocking by adding a monogram. Maybe with sequins. Happy Holidays, my friends!
