Picnic in a Mason Jar for Two by Tonia Larson

Warm weather has finally arrived, the grass is turning green and it’s the perfect time to have a picnic! Since I love mason jars, I challenged myself to see if I could assemble a picnic in a jar for two. What I ended up with was a mason jar filled with all of the food and a wire basket containing the beverages and cutlery.
To assemble your own picnic, start with a small basket that is divided into sections. Since the bottom of the basket is uneven, cut a piece of sturdy foam core board so that it is a little bit smaller than the bottom of the basket. Carefully insert the piece of foam core board so that that bottom of the basket is now level.
Gather prepackaged, mini food items such as summer sausage, tomato and basil cheese and chocolate hazelnut spread in mini jars. I couldn’t find small packages of all of the items. So, I wrapped plastic wrap around the pretzel sticks, caramel cookie wafers and crackers and secured it with a piece of tape.
Slowly add all of the items to a large mason jar, fitting the pieces together like a puzzle. Here is a look from all the sides of the jar so you can see how everything fit inside.
To decorate the mason jar lid, wrap a cupcake liner over the lid and put the band over it. Pieces of washi tape on wooden disposable wood cutlery gives it a cheerful look. Add some matching napkins and paper straws.
Place the napkins, paper straws and decorated cutlery in two small glass jars, one for each person, so that they are contained in the basket. Add two slim cans of sparkling water or your favorite beverage. Place the beverages and the utensils on one side of the basket and the mason jar on the other.
Grab a picnic blanket and you are ready to go! This would also make a fun gift to give to a couple so that they could go on a picnic date.
